304 vs 316 Stainless Steel SS304 vs SS316, Difference

304 vs 316 Stainless Steel. The main difference between 304 vs 316 stainless steel is the composition and corrosion resistance, SS304 doesn’t contain molybdenum while SS316 contains 2-3% molybdenum. The addition of molybdenum provides pitting resistance in phosphoric acid, acetic acid and dilute chloride solutions and provides corrosion resistance in sulfurous acid.

Type 316/316L Stainless Steels Explained

316 stainless steel has more carbon in it than 316L. This is easy to remember, as the L stands for "low." But even though it has less carbon, 316L is very similar to 316 in almost every way. Cost is very similar, and both are durable, corrosion-resistant, and a good choice for high-stress situations.

316/316L versus 316Ti - Metal and Metallurgy engineering

Apr 22, 2004 · The 316Ti that Ugine supplies is not AISI 316Ti. The Ti is balanced a little differently to enhance corrosion resistance. My main reason for starting this post is to get an idea of the differences between this grade and 316L and why 316Ti is not more prevanent in the US. It does seem to have some advantages over the typical 316L.
